Old Tucson Celebrates Bob Shelton - McLintock

Old Tucson and the Fox Tucson Theatre are presenting a showing of the classic John Wayne film, "McClintock," as part of a fundraiser and tribute to Old Tucson founder Robert "Bob" Shelton.

The event, Jan 22 at 6 p.m., will benefit the Arizona Sonora Western Heritage Foundation. Tickets are $10 and available at the Fox box office, 17 W. Congress. Cost is $7 for seniors, military personnel and students.

Shelton, who died Dec. 15 at age 95, transformed the Old Tucson film set, 201 S. Kinney Road, into a popular theme park and is credited with reviving it as a major film location. He counted John Wayne and Elizabeth Taylor among his friends.

Today, Old Tucson is memorialized in more than 400 television, film and commercial projects and remains the region’s premier film location. Among Bob's favorites were films by "The Duke," including the light-hearted "McClintock."

The ASWH Foundation is a nonprofit organization that supports the living history programs at Old Tucson that foster appreciation of the region's diverse cultures and their influence on life in the Sonoran Desert region during Arizona's Territorial Period.
